Anh* was born deaf and mute in a community where disability is often stigmatised as a curse and brings shame to the family. Most of his life was spent hidden away, growing up without schooling, friends, or even proper sign language. He could only communicate with rough gestures, only understood by his family, making him completely dependent on them.
By the age of 21, he could not read, write, or even count. He lived in painful isolation and rejection from society.
But everything changed when he had the opportunity to join our Partner’s skill training for the Deaf program, where he learned woodworking by day, and sign language by night.
God gently rebuilt his life, forging him a new confidence and community. With our Partner’s fellowship group for the Deaf, Anh was taught the Bible in sign language, learning about sin and the forgiveness Jesus offers. One evening, he prayed for salvation and felt the Holy Spirit wash over him.
Today, Anh’s life has been completely transformed by the love and grace of God. Anh is a husband, father, and leader, living a life that didn’t seem possible in his younger years. He trains other deaf men in furniture restoration and is preparing to serve in Content Development using sign language technology so others can find hope in times of isolation and despair through media, just like he did.
From loneliness to comfort, from isolation to community—this is the power of God, through us who love Him and share His love.
*Name changed for security reasons.
Jesus came for the lonely and forgotten, but there are many who are still waiting to have their lives changed by His love and hope.
Will you join us in reaching those rejected by society and trapped in the silence of isolation by bringing the voice of comfort, healing, and hope to those who need it most?
This season, you can give the greatest gift of all—the message of Jesus’ love to someone who feels forgotten and alone.
