Only in God: A Mien Widow’s Journey of Hope

Yienkha’s* is a 58-year-old widow from a remote Mien village in Laos. Yienkha* had been battling an ongoing illness for years with no sign of a cure when her husband passed away suddenly. In a single moment, her world was turned upside down.

I can only imagine how lonely and vulnerable she felt in that moment, and my heart breaks for her. But, when all comfort seemed lost, God reached her and reminded her that He will never leave her or forsake her.

Yienkha began listening to FEBC broadcasts and soon committed herself to Christ, she then led her children to believe as well. Amazingly a short while later, Yienkha was completely healed!

Her relatives and the village leaders couldn’t understand her new faith and pressured her to renounce it, saying it dishonoured the ancestral spirits. They told her, "You should choose us, not choose God!"

Refusing their demands, Yienkha was ostracised, cut off from support, and left struggling to provide for her family. And yet she held fast to God’s promises—drawing strength from prayer, FEBC broadcasts, and the love of her brothers and sisters-in-Christ.

Only in God, I have hope, she shared, with deep gratitude for you, our supporters, whose prayers and encouragement have helped her remain steadfast in her faith.
