With more than 18.2 million people in dire need of aid, Yemen is facing one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. Torn apart by war, economic insecurity, and famine, the Yemeni people live under the constant weight of uncertainty.
Among them is Mira*, a 22-year-old student from a small village just outside Sana’a. The years of conflict have left deep scars on her family, most painfully, the loss of two of her brothers, who had been the pillars of their household. With their absence, the weight of providing for the family fell heavier than ever, and Mira felt the quiet pressure of carrying her family’s hopes alongside her own dreams.
To help support her family, Mira took a job in a women’s clothing shop in the capital, adding long hours of travel to her already full days.
Her life took a drastic turn when the shop owner secretly took photos of her in the changing room and used them to blackmail her. When Mira refused his advances, he cruelly distributed the photos which reached her family. Her father, outraged by the shame she had brought upon the family, threatened to kill her.
A new door opens in her darkest hour
Devastated and terrified, Mira fled and found refuge with another family in a nearby city. There, one of the daughters of the family introduced her to our Partner’s broadcasts, which explore the hope found in Jesus Christ and the possibility of new beginnings.
Through the broadcasts, Mira heard about the God who has unfailing love for her. In those quiet moments, she felt a gentle peace settle around her, as if Christ Himself was standing beside her, soothing the ache in her heart. Slowly, through prayer and the patient guidance of our Partner, that love became a lifeline, giving her the courage and strength to keep moving forward, one day at a time.
A powerful encounter
Weeks later, her father discovered where she was hiding and came with armed men in the middle of the night. As he approached the house, Mira had a vision of Jesus, he said to her:
“I will protect you. I am your Lord, Jesus Christ. As I protected Abraham, Daniel, and the people of Israel through Esther, I will protect you.”
When Mira awoke, she heard her father calling her name. Anchored in Christ’s promise, she refused to let fear overcome her. And when he saw her face, his anger dissolved. He fell to his knees, embraced her, and asked for her forgiveness.
Mira has now given her life to Christ and continues to grow in faith through regular contact with local believers. Her father now fiercely protects her—a living testimony of the transforming power of God’s love.
